The Mission of Fantsuam Foundation is to eliminate poverty and disadvantage through integrated development programs: this mission ensures that all the development activities are centered on the community. This is especially important when it comes to connectivity of unserved and poorly served rural communities. These have been FF target partners in all her communication infrastructure services.
The Fantsuam Community Learning Center (CLC) was established in 1997. Its focus was to promote adult literacy and digital literacy for the southern Kaduna Communities. The centre has grown from a one-room classroom into a complex that comprises four halls
-
one of which hosts the Community Library,
-
a second hall is the ZittNet Academy that provides digital literacy training
-
the 3rd hall, the Marie Lowe Computer-based Test center, CBT, provides a facility of over 300 computer systems that are used for national university entrance examinations, and
-
the main hall, the Greg Jones Complex that houses the administration, microfinance, health department and the national volunteer program, GAIYA
The Fantsuam Community Network is therefore not a stand-alone service, but a complex that serves the developmental priorities of the host communities of Fantsuam Foundation. The goal of the Network is to promote community ownership of communication, health and educational resources including infrastructure.
The Fantsuam Community Library continues to provide formal and informal training to members of the community. Community members are encouraged and supported to make online job enquiries, open email addresses and get registered for Government-sponsored career and financial support programs.
Since the support of APC in 2010 for John Dada to facilitate the development of Nigeria’s first draft of a broadband strategy, (Broadband for Nigeria, BB4NG) the Federal Ministry of Communications followed this up with the inauguration of a National Broadband Council in 2017. In 2017, John Dada led a project on Policy and regulatory challenges for community networks in Nigeria. This resulted in the production of “A short guide on the procedure for establishment of CN in Nigeria.
