Women and girls are the primary constituency of Fantsuam Foundation and affirmative action is in place to ensure their inclusion in all her activities. The Fantsuam microfinance service targets women petty traders and smallholder farmers. They are supported to establish Village Savings and Loan Groups to enable them achieve financial autonomy.
Prevention and prosecution of cases of gender-based violence (GBV), especially against women and girls, has been on the increase since the Covid 19 restrictions and the escalation of sectarian crisis. Fantsuam works with 14 Community Volunteers in 4 Local Government areas of Kaduna State to provide care to 3,900 children and monitor cases of GBV and infringement of women’s rights. The services provided for victims include relocation to safe houses, prosecution with support from the Salama Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC)
The decade-long sectarian violence in Kaduna State has more female and child victims. Peace
processes in affected communities had always excluded women until the recent establishment of the Southern Kaduna Women Peace Network, SKWPN, by Fantsuam Foundation. The SKWPN undertakes advocacy, Early Warning, and Response System to identify and analyze conflict trends, alert to conflict risk, inform decision-making and initiate timely responses to prevent escalation of crisis, ensure that women’s voices are heard in all peace processes of their communities.
