Women have always been the worst affected victim in the decade-long cycle of sectarian violence in Southern Kaduna, but their voices are hardly heard at the various peace parleys organized by Government. The women have the most to lose in these sectarian violence. They lose their sons, husbands, farmlands and are made spoils of war through rapes and kidnapping

Ongoing Interventions:

Establishment of the Southern Kaduna Women Peace Network to promote mutual support by women across ethnic and religious divide

Emergency rescue service, ongoing psycho-social, housing, educational and legal support for victims of gender-based violence

Economic empowerment of women through establishment, mentoring and monitoring of Village Savings and Loan Associations, VSLAs.

Working with women from farming and cattle rearing communities of Jema’a LGA to plant Gao seedlings as replacement for trees cut down for domestic cooking. Gao is good for animal feeds and its nitrogen fixing abilities makes it attractive for farmers. Participating women are provided with Clean cook stoves that uses briquettes produced from plant waste

Interfaith youth committee to protect Eid prayer ground and same for Christians at festival periods

Working with communities to rebuild homes destroyed during sectarian crisis using locally available material

Provision of palliatives of food and medicine to victims of sectarian violence

Working with community leaders on early warning response systems to de-escalate tensions

Working with jungle boys and girls (drug addicts) to incorporate them into early warning systems in their communities

Organic Coconut Plantation initiative which requires cooperation of resident farmers and itinerant herdsmen to provide manure in exchange for water and feeds for their livestock

Joint construction of primary and secondary school for children from farming and herdsmen communities in Tafan where there has been sectarian clashes between the communities. Both communities donated the land to be used for the school
